BYD Sealion 05 launched in China with DM-i version offering 305 km of EV range
The BYD Sealion 05 compact new energy crossover was launched in China with the plug-in hybrid DM-i version offering up to 305 km of electric range. This model boasts a LiDAR-based DiPilot 300 ADAS, seven airbags, and a built-in fridge. The entry-level model costs 97,900 yuan (14,360 USD).
The BYD Sealion 05 became available for purchase with two powertrain variants. The first is a plug-in hybrid, and the second is a pure electric. Both models share similar styling with a closed front end, thin headlights, semi-hidden door handles, and blackened pillars. Dimensions are 4620/1860/1630 mm, respectively. For clarity, the Sealion 05 is 165 mm longer than the BYD Atto 3.

Both variant of the BYD Sealion 05 come standard with the DiPilot 100 (“God’s Eye C”) assisted driving system. However, they could be optionally equipped with a LiDAR-based DiPilot 300 (“God’s Eye B”) ADAS capable of performing the Navigate On Autopilot (NOA) function on urban roads and highways. The car also adopts the DiSus-C suspension with a continuous damping system.
Interior of both cars adopts a 12.8-inch touchscreen as standard. More expensive trim levels offer a 15.6-incnh floating display. An 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster sits behind the steering wheel of the BYD Sealion 05. The car’s gear shifter sits behind the wheel. As a result, there is enough space in the center console to fir a block of physical buttons, two cup holders, and a built-in refrigerator.

The Sealion 05 DM-i offers a trunk for 650 liters. Its BEV counterpart offers capacity of 600 liters. On the other hand, The Sealion 05 EV boasts a 110-liter frunk. However, the biggest difference between these cars is the powertrain.

The BYD Sealion 05 DM-i plug-in hybrid crossover adopts the fifth-generation DM technology with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated engine for 74 kW (99 hp). It is paired with a synchronous permanent magnet electric motor for 120 kW (161 hp). It is available for purchase with two battery options for 26.628 and 34.275 kWh. The electric CLTC range lies between 220 and 305 km.



During the launch ceremony, the brand’s officials claimed that the car’s electric range is enough to travel from Shanghai to Suzhou. What is more, the Sealion 05 DM-i boasts a fuel consumption of 3.1 liters per 100 km. The mixed range reaches 2,105 km under CLTC conditions, thanks to a 65-liter fuel tank.

The entry-level trim of the all-electric variant of the BYD Sealion 05 adopts a 200 kW (268 hp) electric motor in the rear axle powered by the 57.545 kWh LFP battery fro 540 km of CLTC range.


The more expensive version boasts a 240 kW (322 hp) e-motor and a 68.547 kWh pack for 630 km of range. This SUV supports the flash charging technology. It allows to charge the battery from 10% to 97% in 9 minutes. It is worth noting that the third-gen BYD Atto 3 adopts a similar powertrain. Prices of the BYD Sealion 05 EV are as follows:

It is worth noting that the BYD Sealion 05 EV was previously available for purchase in China with a 100 mm shorter body and without flash charging tech. According to China EV DataTracker, it delivered 8,675 units to customers in China in Q1 2026, down 60.1% Quarter-on-Quarter.
