Leapmotor C16 received more than 11,950 orders after 24 hrs of pre-sales

On April 26, Leapmotor announced that its C16 model received more than 11,950 pre-sale orders after only 24 hours. Positioned as a medium-to-large SUV, the C16 is expected to sell for less than 200,000 yuan (27,600 USD). The official launch will be in June this year.

The size of the Leapmotor C16 is 4915/1905/1770 mm and the wheelbase is 2825 mm, based on the LEAP 3.0 architecture, making it the largest model of Leapmotor to date. Consumers can choose from six exterior colors: Star Silver, Star Purple, Sky Gray, Pearl White, Metallic Black, and Glazed Emerald.

The Leapmotor C16’s front face adopts a closed design paired with through-type headlights. Other notable design elements include hidden door handles, through-type taillights, a panoramic sunroof, and an electric tailgate.

Additionally, there is a roof lidar and cameras to realize advanced driving assistance functionalities. The car runs on either 20-inch or 21-inch rim.

The Leapmotor C16 is available in both EV and EREV versions. The EV version is equipped with a 215 kW electric motor and a 67 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The top speed is 160 km/h and the CLTC cruising range is 520 km. The EV version also comes standard with an 800V high-voltage silicon carbide platform, in which it takes 15 minutes to replenish from 30% to 80%.

The EREV version is powered by a 70 kW 1.5L four-cylinder range-extender engine, a 170 kW electric motor, and a 28 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack. The top speed is 170 km/h and the pure electric range is 230 km, according to Chinese media ITHome.

Coming to the cockpit, it has a 14.6-inch central control screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, a 21-speaker audio system, and double-layer laminated glass. The vehicle operating system comes from the LEAP OS.

A rear ceiling 15.6-inch entertainment screen is also not absent.

Furthermore, Leapmotor defines the C16 as an “MPSUV” – multi-purpose sport utility vehicle, with a 2+2+2 seat layout, meaning retaining the space of an MPV and the styling of an SUV. The first two rows of seats support functions such as electric adjustment, heating, and ventilation.
