Nio ET5 Touring launch and deliveries

Recently, Nio has shared a mysterious announcement via its official website with the official motto “Inspired by life”. In the image, we can see the sneak pic of an interior of, presumably, the Nio ET5 Touring. In the lower part of the image, we can also notice the inscription “Witness the launch of our next chapter” and the date “15.06.2023”. So, we can easily guess that this announcement is dedicated to the ET5 Touring international launch. It isn’t a big surprise since this vehicle got the production approval from the Chinese regulator, and its promo shooting sessions started in Europe.

Moreover, the Nio ET5 Touring was recently spotted in Holand with a windmill in the background. What is more, we can see Ben Collins (the Stig from Top Gear in 2003-2010) standing next to the ET5 Touring and, probably, filming for his YouTube channel called Drivetribe. We will carefully follow the updates from his channel. We will probably get the video after the official launch.

Back to the Nio ET5 Touring launch, it was said that its deliveries will start within June 2023, which is really soon. But, according to the information from the industry insiders, its deliveries will initially start in China. We will remind you that previously it was said that the ET5 Touring is developed especially for the European market, and it will first launch there. But, as we can see now, the Chinese buyers will get this vehicle first. Actually, there are some reasons for it. One of them is the homologation process of the ET5 Touring in Europe that is time consuming. On the other hand, this vehicle got all the approvals for the Chinese market. So it is just faster to start deliveries it in China, as we know that speed is everything in today’s automotive market.

Nio ET5 Touring: fact file

Now, let’s briefly detail the Nio ET5 Touring. It terms of size, it is equal to its sedan sibling. Its exact dimensions are 4790/1960/1499 mm with a wheelbase of 2888 mm. For clarity, it is 77 mm longer, 133 mm wider, and 57 mm higher than the BMW 3 Series Touring. The ET5 Touring can also tow up to 1,400 kg. As for the powertrain, it has a single option with the dual-motor 4WD for 490 hp. We will remind you that the ET5 sedan and the recently launched ES6 NT2 got the same power output. In terms of batteries, the ET5 Touring got three options: hybrid ternary-LFP (NMC-LFP) 75 kWh, ternary for 100 kWh and semi-solid state battery for 150 kWh (to hit mass production in July).

Editor’s comment

We can see how eagerly Nio wants to be successful in the European market. Of course, the ET5 Touring’s deliveries will first start in China. But station wagons are extremely unpopular here. On the other hand, it is one of the most popular car body types in Europe. So, together with powerful motors, capacious battery options and the battery swap possibility, the ET5 Touring can attract a lot of attention.

According to Autocar, the Nio ET5 Touring will be sold under the name “ET5 Orion” in the UK. Moreover, they disclosed that the ET5 station wagon will hit the UK market in 2024.
