Is it enough to rival Alphard? GWM’s Wey Gaoshan MPV revealed interior

The interior of the all new Great Wall Motor’s MPV Wey Gaoshan was revealed in China. It looks high-end and comfy. But is it enough to beat some leaders of the segment, including the Denza D9 from BYD? Moreover, will Gaoshan be able to compete with the Toyota Alphard? Let’s get to know it better.

Briefly on Wey Gaoshan

Before we will get to the interior of the Gaoshan, we will remind you that it is the first MPV under Wey. In its turn, Wey is an independent brand under Great Wall Motor that was launched in 2016. Initially, it manufactured only premium SUVs. We will also remind you that Wey has launched in the European markets with the Coffee 01 PHEV crossover. Nowadays, Wey expands into new spheres. And the first of them is MPV segment with the Gaoshan as the first model.

Speaking about the name of this MPV, it is “高山” (Gaoshan) which means “High Mountain”. However, we will keep using a transliteration of its name to keep it simple. It was first exposed in Chinese MIIT announcements in April 2023. As for its exterior design, the Gaoshan looks pretty close to the Toyota Alphard. It has a huge chrome-plated grille that merges with front headlights. Here, we should also mention that it has quite a lot of chrome trim all around the body.

As for the dimensions of the Wey Gaoshan, they are 5045/1960/1900 mm with a wheelbase of 3085 mm. For clarity, it is 100 mm longer, 110 mm wider and 5 mm higher than the Toyota Alphard. It is powered by the Hi4 PHEV system that comprises a 1.5-liter turbocharged ICE for 156 hp. It works in pair with two electric motors. As for the battery, it is ternary (NMC) made by SVOLT, a well-known manufacturer that signed a supply contract with Stellantis. Its capacity reaches 37.96 kWh. With it on board, the Gaoshan can run up to 150 km in a fully electric mode.

Inside, Wey Gaoshan has seven seats with 2-2-3 layout. Its second-row captain chairs are heated, ventilated, and they massage you (with a 10-point massage function). Moreover, they have legrests and armrests. What is more, you can turn a seat into a bed by clicking just one button. They also have slide rails with the length of 1845 mm. And the leg room for the second row seats can reach 1166 mm. As for the third row, the maximum leg room here is 962 mm. The height of the third row’s cushion, it reaches 350 mm, which is a relatively good number for an MPV.

You can also fold the third row with 4/6 ratio to fit more luggage in the trunk of the Gaoshan. With the third row of seats folded, you will have up to 1725 L of space. It is a decent number. Another high-end feature of the Gaoshan is an independent refrigerator that can fit up to 14 bottles. It can maintain the fixed temperature for 24 hours after the driver turns off the vehicle. It means you will be able to drink a cold liquid regardless of how warm it is outside. Of course, in case you drove the Gaoshan less than 24 hours ago.

Other features of the Wey Gaoshan’s interior are shades on the windows, ISOFIX interface on the second row of seats, and a sunroof. As for the driver, he has a large single screen, a three-spoke circular steering wheel, two wireless phone charging pads and hidden compartments. As for the gear shifter, it seats behind the wheel.
