Zeekr’s second MPV, codenamed CM2E, was spotted in the garage wearing a heavy camo. The all-electric minivan is developed with Waymo, a US-based self-driving project from Google.

Zeekr CM2E is based on Zeekr’s M-Vision concept, which was introduced in 2022 at the Guangzhou Auto Show. It was designed in Sweden and is dedicated to ride-hailing, featuring L4 autonomous driving, Zeekr announced then.

However, one little detail from the spy shot suggests Zeekr might change its mind. Unlike the M-Vision concept, the camouflaged EV has no lidar on the front windshield and is missing some cameras and sensors, pointing out that Zeekr might also be developing a cheaper version with fewer self-driving capabilities for private buyers.

The M-Vision concept was supposed to have rear and front electric sliding doors, and previous spy shots confirmed it. However, the model now has only a sliding rear door and a traditional front door, showing Zeekr is most likely experimenting with different setups for various markets and uses.

Zeekr CM2E is a small MPV that sits on Geely’s SEA-M platform, having a length of about 4.6 meters and five seats in a 2+3 layout. It might not seem like a long minivan, but don’t forget you don’t need a space for a driver in Waymo’s version as it is all dedicated to passenger space.

Zeekr hasn’t revealed specifications yet, but CarNewsChina expects it will feature 800V architecture like Zeekr’s latest model, the 007 sedan. The 007 powertrain options comprise a single motor version with 310 kW and an AWD version with 475 kW.

As confirmed by previous spy shots, the new EV will feature Zeekr’s Stargate light band, first adopted by Zeekr 007. It is a 90-inch element consisting of 1,711 lamps. It supports personal projections. According to Zeekr CEO An Conghui, they’ve spent over 1 billion yuan (USD 140 million) to develop this element.

Zeekr is a BEV brand founded three years ago under Geely. It sells four models: the Zeekr 009 MPV, the Zeekr 001 sedan, the Zeekr X compact SUV, and the Zeekr 007 sedan. It also produces a performance version of 001 called 001 FR. In 2023, Zeekr sold 118,685 cars, up 65% from 2022 but missing its target to double sales to 140,000 units. For 2024, Zeekr aims to deliver 230,000 vehicles.

The production version of CM2E will hit the market later in 2024 and join Waymo’s fleet in the US. Zeek didn’t confirm if their second MPV will be available in other markets for private buyers, but based on recent lidar-less spy shots, we expect it will be available in China and possibly in Europe. We will keep an eye on it.
