The pickup truck is no longer the domain of dieselin’ farmers; Kawei Auto just launched the EV7, the first electric full-size pickup truck in the world. Kawei Auto became famous in 2014 when they cloned the Ford F-150, they are still making that truck, and the EV7 is based on it.

Kawei Auto became famous in 2014 when they launched their K1 pickup truck, a clone of the Ford F-150. They also have a W1 SUV based on the same platform. It has the same front as the K1 but doesn’t look that much like a Ford because of its SUV body. The W1  just got an upgrade and a new engine.

The impressive the Kawei Auto K1 pickup truck debuted on the Beijing Auto Show. Kawei Auto is a brand of a company called Jiangsu Kawei Automotive Industry Group, based in the great city of Danyang in Jiangsu Province.

Kawei is new here in the northeast, but already well-established further down south. Last year the company produced 10.000 K1 trucks and is currently expanding the factory to make 20.000 next year. I had a nice chat with a friendly staff member and sure asked him about the similarities in design with the K1 and the Ford F-150…

This is the Kawei Auto K1 pickup truck for the Beijing Auto Show

And a new brand was born. This is the Kawei Auto K1 pickup truck, it will debut on Sunday on the Beijing Auto Show. Kawei Auto is a brand of a company called Jiangsu Kawei Automotive Industry Group, based in the great city of Danyang in Jiangsu Province.

The K1 looks vaguely similar to the last generation Ford F-150, and remembers us of the curious case of the infamous JAC 4r3.
