A new electric taxi demonstration project in Beijing. One hundred Chang’an E30 electric taxi’s will roam the streets of faraway Fangshan District where Chang’an has a new factory. I saw this new Chinese electric car up close last weekend at a ‘Clean Energy Expo’ here in town.

The new Chang’an E30 EV was expected to debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April but it hatched early, I saw it yesterday ay the ‘Clean Energy Expo’ in Beijing, a fine occasion indeed to launch an electric vehicle. The E30 however won’t be available for the general public just yet, Chang’an will first start some ‘taxi-pilot-projects’ in several yet unnamed city. The sole E30 on he show was therefore dressed up as a cab.

Another new electric car from China. This is the all-new Chang’an E30 EV. Interestingly ‘all-new’ means all new, the E30 isn’t based on any existing Chang’an.
Looking at the size it might share its platform with the Chang’an Eado that debuted in China at the Guangzhou Auto Show in December.
Update: one reader (thank you) informed me that the Chang’an E30 is in fact based on the upcoming new Hafei Saibao. That seems indeed correct, Chang’an bought Hafei Automobile in 2009 and since then both companies are working together on developing new small and medium-sized cars. The new Saibao will be available with patrol engines and there will be an electric as well.
