The new Beijing Auto Senova D20 hatchback debuted on the 2014 Guangzhou Auto Show in China. The Senova D20 is basically a facelifted Beijing Auto E-Series that has been moved under the Senova brand. A good move it seems because the vehicle suddenly looks a lot hipper.
The outgoing Beijing Auto E-Series. Price starts at 58.800 yuan and ends at 74.800 yuan. Engines: 99hp 1.3 and a 113hp 1.5, mated to a five-speed manual or a five-speed automatic. The E-Series is based on the platform of the 2004 Smart ForFour/Mitsubishi Colt and design-wise inspired by the old Mercedes-Benz B-Class.
Both engines will continue in the facelifted-new Senova D20 and price will be about the same. The Senova D20 will hit the Chinese car market just before the end of this year.
Color scheme a bit lighter than before, but no obvious other changes here.
Enough space for two and a dog.
Sport five-spoke alloys work very well on Senova D20.
New window spoiler, new rear lights, and a completely new bumper.
The typical Senova grille, looking somewhat airplane.
They also had a cross version on the booth, we have seen it before on spy shots but it hasn’t been launched so far. Looks ready now. And it has a very real and very proper roof rack, like all cross-vehicles should have. Are you looking, Qoros?!
Sadly, Qoros isn’t looking. However, BAIC’s Senova range is starting to look good. Will 2015 finally be their year for a major breakout?
A well designed hatchback!
BAIC claims to offer 3 guarantees with the D20, i.e. refund, replacement, and repair, but with only 2 stars received in the early crash test, might the updated version offer a fourth?
