The new Chery Tiggo 5 will hit the China car market on November 28
The brand new Chery Tiggo 5 SUV will be launched on the China car market on November 25, price will start around 100.000 yuan and end around 150.000 yuan. The Tiggo 5 is the largest Chery SUV to date, it will be positioned above the ever-continuing Chery Tiggo 3.
The Tiggo 5 will compete in a hyper competitive market with more than 30 cars from different brands fighting for the fat Chinese wallets. The Chery brand name is relatively strong China and the Tiggo 5 is a big car for the money, so Chery will likely be able to grab a piece the pie.
Lone engine at launch will be a 132hp 2.0 petrol, mated to a 5-speed manual or a 7-speed CVT. In 2014 a 1.6 turbo and a 1.4 turbo will be added to the line-up. The 1.6 turbo will get 155hp and 210nm, so it will slot above the 2.0 in the lineup. The specs of the 1.4 turbo are yet unknown.Size: 4506/1841/1740, wheelbase is 2610.
Tiggo 5 looks best from the back. Sporty roof spoiler will help forcing those 132 horses down.
Under-the-bonnet design is improving, the engine bay used to a complete mass at Chery, but this here looks rather neat.
