A very decent but not very exciting family car, the SouEast V5 sedan debuted at the Beijing Auto Show, in a rather boring brownish color. The V5 is the very first passenger car actually ‘designed’ by SouEast, its earlier cars being no more than rebadged old Mitsubishi’s. The link with Japan is still there however, the V5 is based on the platform from the last-gen Mitsubishi Lancer that was made by the SouEast-Mitsubishi joint venture.
The SouEast V5 will be listed on the china car market in Q3. It will be available with only one engine at launch: an imported Mitsubishi-sourced ’4B10′ 1.8 with 144hp mated to a CVT. Later on SouEast will offer its own 1.5 and 1.5 turbo. Price for the V5 will range from around 70.000 to 90.000 yuan for the 1.6. The 1.5 and 1.5 turbo can drive up the price to some 120.000 yuan.
It isn’t too boring, looks like a fine car to me. No plans for export, I guess?
