On June 21, BYD announced it delivered 100 Yuan Plus EV SUVs to customers in Mexico City and Guadalajara. BYD cooperates with three dealers in Mexico – Continental, Dalton, and Liverpool.
In March this year, BYD launched on the Mexican market three EV models – Han EV, Tang EV, and Yuan Plus EV.
Yuan Plus EV is known as Yuan Plus in China and Atto 3 in some overseas markets (Australia, New Zealand, UK, Thailand, or Israel). It was previously reported that Atto 3 would be the car’s international name; however, now we see that in the Central and South American market, BYD uses a slightly modified Chinese name.
Zou Zhou, country manager of BYD Mexico, commented upon the delivery ceremony: “BYD has delivered 100 Yuan Plus in Mexico City and Guadalajara, which shows that local consumers are also increasingly demanding for electric vehicles and paying more and more attention to environmental protection and sustainable development.”
BYD recently pushed its electric vehicle expansion into Europe; it already sells in Germany and Netherlands and most recently launched Atto 3 in the UK in March. Central and Latin America is no exception. In October last year, Yuan Plus EV debuted in Colombia and Han EV in Brazil; a year ago, 1200 units of Yuan Pro EV arrived in Costa Rican market in June.
BYD’s EVs are also popular in the Caribbean as BYD Tang became the car Prince William and his wife Catherine used last March when visiting the Bahamas.
BYD Yuan Plus hit dealerships in China in February 2022. It is built on e-platform 3.0 and features a 150 kW motor producing 310 Nm of torque, which pushes the car to 100 km/h in 7.3 seconds. The battery has a capacity of 60.48 kWh, and BYD Mexico claims 480 km NEDC range and fast charging that fill the battery from 30-80% in 30 minutes.
The compact electric SUV dimensions are (length, width, and height) 4,455 mm, 1,875 mm, and 1,615 mm, respectively, wheelbase of 2,720 mm. The interior is designed by former Mercedes Benz interior design manager Michele Domenico Jauch–Paganetti.
