Just days before the launch of the Xiaomi SU7 on March 28, Xiaomi Chairman and CEO, Lei Jun, disclosed on his personal Weibo account that Xiaomi deployed a fleet of 576 prototype vehicles for on-road tests, cumulating over 5.4 million kilometers on day-to-day conditions nationwide. Not only did Xiaomi executives participate in these on-road tests, but Lei Jun contributed 3000 kilometers to the testing efforts. On a 15-hour test trip, he drove from Beijing to Shanghai on his own.

“Xiaomi executives have fully participated in the on-road testing of Xiaomi SU7, accumulating over 100,000 kilometers of testing. I participated in more than 3000 kilometers of road tests. The longest test was on January 5th, driving from Beijing to Shanghai. That trip was 1276 kilometers, with me being the only driver. The SU7 used full-speed NOA mode throughout the 15-hour journey, which included charging and rest breaks. This road trip was a test of endurance for the four-wheel-drive car. Under winter conditions at an average speed of 100 km/h, the SU7 was recharged twice. Overall the trip was a very good experience,” Lei Jun shared on Weibo.

“Xiaomi deployed 576 SU7 prototype vehicles for large-scale testing across 300 cities nationwide. The road tests included temperatures from -40°C in Heihe to 60°C in Turpan. Tests were also performed at a high altitude of 4768m in the Kunlun Mountains. The scale of testing was extensive as many people in different cities have seen our fleet of vehicles. The Xiaomi SU7 is now ready for launch, scheduled for next Thursday,” he added. “The cost of each test vehicle is over 2 million yuan each (276,600 USD).”

Xiaomi claims that the SU7 has the most minimal drag coefficient among production vehicles, standing at only 0.195 Cd.

Xiaomi Group held its first board meeting at its new automotive factory on March 19. Board members toured the factory and test-drove the Xiaomi SU7. The factory includes manufacturing automation that can assemble over 100 parts in less than 30 seconds.

On March 21st, Lei Jun announced a new color variant – Twilight Purple, a metallic paint.
