Kia will develop a K4 for China

Chinese media says Kia will develop a ‘K4’ especially for the Chinese auto market, citing unnamed sources from the Dongfeng-Yueda-Kia joint venture. Sadly, those sources didn’t say what kinda vehicle the K4 will be, so wild speculation has started…

Media thinks of two possibilities. One; a small coupe like the Kia Shuma, which is currently imported into China. Two; a new sedan to compete with cars such as the Nissan Sylphy and the Roewe 550. Both possibilities seem unlikely.

China still doesn’t buy many coupe’s, no matter how cheap, and there ain’t that much room for a K4 sedan between the Kia K3 and Kia K5 sedans. We therefore add a third possibility: a crossover-style wagon based on the K3. Lifestyle wagons are becoming hot in China, ‘individuality’ is the  fashion, so such a car could sell. But!, we are speculating here, more news as we get it…
