Oh no. Chinese customs offcials have seized the one and only Koenigsegg Agera R BLT that was made on special order for a very wealthy and very anonymous Chinese businessman. Back in September we had the first pictures of the vehicle being packed for its trip to China, but when it arrived in the great port city of Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province something went very wrong…

Custom officials seized the vehicle, saying it was ‘smuggled’, which basically means the owner didn’t pay the import tax. For a vehicle like this the import tax can be as high as 100% of the original value of the car, that is why all supercars are so extremely expensive in China. Chinese media now says this vehicle is worth 30 million yuan, or 4.7 million US dollar, with the import tax included.

Without paying import tax the vehicle would cost ‘only’ 2.35 million US dollar, which is a big save, even for a billionaire. Sure we don’t know what exactly happened here so we have to be very carefull passing judgement, which therefore we don’t. Chinese media says the seize of the Koenigsegg is part of a bigger anti-smuggling campaign that also netted vehicles from Rolls-Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota, Porsche, Audi and Range Rover. Whether the wealthy buyer will finally get his Agera is yet unsure, but you can bet the fine will be extremely high…
