The BYD Frigate 05 (Corvette 05) was spied in China during road tests. It will debut this year as the third vehicle in the BYD’s Warship line. Basically, the Frigate 05 stays close to the BYD’s bestselling vehicle, the Song SUV.
Before we crack on with the Frigate 05, we will detail the BYD’s Warship line a bit. It is a part of the brand’s Ocean series. It comprises PHEVs aimed at young buyers. Currently, the Warship line comprises the Destroyer 05 sedan and the Frigate 07 SUV. Initially, the Frigate 05 was told to be launched ahead of the Frigate 07. But it seems that BYD thought differently. Anyway, this year the Frigate 05 is going to make its official debut. Today, its spy shots leaked online. It is a great opportunity to get acquainted with this vehicle.
BYD Frigate 05 Exterior And Basic Information
Let’s get to spy shots. As we can see, BYD is actively testing the Frigate 05. Some of these vehicles were spied in different locations, including the parking near the BYD’s plant and a town road. All of them are covered with camouflage, but we can still underline their exterior features.
As we can see, the body shape of the Frigate 05 stays close to the BYD Song Pro SUV. In fact, these vehicles share the similar platform, just like Frigate 07 and BYD Tang. So the Frigate 05’s doors, side mirrors, roof line and all the pillars are similar to the BYD Song.
But we can easily notice changes in the Frigate’s appearance too. Its front end got a headlight design, similar to the BYD Seal. They are styled like the eyes of the marine creature. It is interesting that two vehicles from different lines share similar exterior design elements.
From the back, the BYD Frigate 05 has a roof spoiler and a single taillight unit. Speaking about the BYD Frigate 05’s size, it is yet to be unveiled. But, as we have mentioned, this vehicle stays in line with the well-known BYD Song. So its dimensions should be about of 4650/1860/1700 mm with a wheelbase of 2660 mm.
Frigate 05 Interior And Specs
The interior of the Frigate 05 was also unveiled. It differs from the one that we saw in August 2022. It still has a large floating rotatable screen and a D-shaped steering wheel. But its center tunnel was seemingly reworked. Now, it has got two wireless charging pads, a small crystal gear selector, a set of physical buttons, and two cup holders.
The Frigate 05 will adopt the DM-i system of the Song Pro. It comprises a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol powered four-cylinder for 110 hp (81 kW) and 135 Nm. It works in pair with an electric motor for 180 hp (132 kW) and 316 Nm. The Song Pro has two optional batteries. The entry-level got an 8.3-kWh LFP battery. It can run up to 51 km with an ICE off. The second battery is also LFP with a capacity of 18.3 kWh. With it on board, the Song Pro’s fully electric NEDC range is 110 km. So the Frigate 05 won’t have a lot of power, but it will be a reasonable family vehicle.
