The Luxeed S7 is the vehicle, jointly developed by Chery and Huawei. It stands on the E0X platform and has Huawei electric motors on board. It was recently exposed by the Chinese MIIT during the process of the homologation for the domestic market. As a result, its specs were unveiled with the body length over 5 meters, 496 hp and hybrid LFP-NMC battery from CATL. Let’s get to know the Luxeed S7 better.

The Luxeed S7 was previously known by its internal name, EH3. We have covered its spy shots during road tests in China. Recently, Huawei’s Chief Executive Officer Richard Yu has shared the official picture of this sedan. And later, even more official pictures were published. And now, almost all the specs of the S7 were disclosed by the Chinese Government.

Briefly about Luxeed S7

Let’s crack on with the dimensions of the Luxeed S7. They are 2971(5004)/1963/1472(1461) mm. There are lots of numbers, so let’s slow down and talk about the size of this sedan more precisely. The difference in its body length is caused by different bumpers. As for the height difference, the main reason for it is air suspension. The Luxeed S7 can be equipped with 245/50 R19; 245/45 R20 and 255/40 R21 wheels. It also has optional Brembo brake calipers. Its approach and departure angles are 13/14 and 12/16 degrees, respectively.

The curb weight of this sedan lies in 1975-2170 kg range, depending on a battery and drive type. As for the gross weight, it is 2384-2589 kg. Now, let’s add a few words about the appearance of this vehicle. It has thin headlights, joined by the LED strip. Another feature of the S7 is retractable door handles. Moreover, it looks like its LiDAR sensor is also retractable, so it can hide into the roof. From the rear, we can see that the panoramic roof is so big it can act as a rear window.

Here, we will also remind you that the Luxeed S7 will support the Huawei ADS 2.0 self driving system that will support the NCA (Navigation Cruise Assist) that allows a car to drive on its own in cities or on highways. Right after the launch, this function will work in 45 cities across China. However, Huawei plans to increase its number in the future. Another feature of the S7 is the Huawei’s HarmonyOS 4.0 system on board.

Luxeed S7’s powertrain

Speaking about the Luxeed S7’s powertrain options, its entry-level trim has a 292-hp (215 kW) electric motor from Huawei on the rear axle. It is powered by an LFP battery from CATL. Its capacity has yet to be revealed. However, there is also the second option that is a hybrid ternary (NMC) and LFP battery from CATL. We will remind you that Nio uses the same kind of battery. In the pack, NMC cells are located on its edges because they are more efficient in low temperatures. As for the LFP cells, they sit in the middle of the pack. As a result, the NMC-LFP battery has two major benefits: cold resistance and relatively low net cost.

The Luxeed S7 has also got the 4WD version with two electric motors from Huawei. The rear e-motor generates the same 292 hp (215 kW). As for the electric motor that sits in the front axle, it generates 204 hp (150 kW). The combined power of these electric motors reaches 496 horses. As for the battery, it is an LFP-NMC one from CATL. Its capacity has yet to be revealed.

Editor’s comment

In China, Chery will be responsible for the manufacturing process of the Luxeed S7 while Huawei will act like a main supplier of electric motors, brains and other elements. Here, we should mention that we aren’t sure who will sell Luxeed-branded vehicles in China. But we may guess that it will be the Huawei’s duty, as the domestic name of Luxeed is 智界 (Zhijie, Mind Limit). Its name correlates with the Chinese name of the AITO (问界, Wenjie) brand that Huawei and Seres jointly run.

We aren’t sure about the price tag of the Luxeed S7 sedan. It looks like it will compete with such vehicles as Zeekr 001 from Geely, Rising F7 from SAIC, Denza N7 from BYD, etc. So, its price range should be about of 250,000 – 350,000 yuan (34,440 – 48,210 USD). For this price tag, the Luxeed S7 will have quite a lot of rivals in China. But Huawei has already established a great sales network, using its flagship stores to sell EVs. So, the S7 has a chance to become a viral car in China.

  1. Good gravy, it feels like there has been a blitz of sedans in the past week or two.

I quite like the restrained but eager look on this one. Interesting it can do self driving, but it doesn’t show sensor bulges everywhere. XD
