The Aion S Max electric sedan from GAC was launched in China with a starting price tag of 149,900 yuan (20,500 USD). This model stands on the Aion Plus’ architecture. But the S Max has a longer body and new styling. Its top trim level has a 245-hp e-motor and 610 km of range.
Aion is a NEV (New Energy Vehicle) brand under GAC New Energy. It was first introduced in 2018 during the Guangzhou Auto Show. The GAC Aion S sedan was launched in 2019 as the brand’s second model. GAC regularly updated this model in China. In 2021, the Aion S Plus sedan entered the Chinese market. Aion S and S Plus models were sold simultaneously in China. The Aion S series’ cumulative sales reached 182,230 units in 2023. Now, the Aion S Max sedan has replaced the Aion S Plus.

The Aion S Max sedan is a facelift of the S Plus. Its front end adopted split headlights with four LED strips. It also has a smaller air intake in the front bumper. The rear end of the Aion S Max has a thin LED strip that goes through the trunk door. The Aion S Max has two new exterior shades: Blue and Green. We should underline that the exterior styling of the Aion S Max is too clean. As a result, it is hard to distinguish it from other China-made EV sedans.
The dimensions of the Aion S Max sedan are 4863/1890/1515 mm, with a wheelbase of 2760 mm. It is 53 mm longer and 10 mm wider than its predecessor. Its wheelbase is also 10 mm longer. The Aion S Max has a reworked center console with smaller air intakes inside. Its center tunnel has two wireless charging pads and a hidden compartment. The gear selector sits behind the steering wheel.
According to Aion, the rear seats’ cushion height is 350 mm while the legroom is 960 mm, and the headroom is 965 mm. The front seats of the S Max can be folded, transforming into a bed. Speaking about other features of the S Max, it has heated and ventilated front seats, a Face-ID sensor, and 11 speakers.
GAC Aion S Max powertrain and price range
Aion S Max has five trim levels. The first four have a 204-hp electric motor on the front axle. The new sedan can speed up to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds with it on board. And the top-trim Aion S Max has a 245-hp electric motor. Its zero-to-hundred acceleration time is 6.8 seconds.
As for the battery, there are two options. The first pack is LFP for 59.5 kWh and 510 km WLTC range. The second one is ternary (NMC) for 69.7 kWh and 610 km WLTC range.
And the entry-level Aion S Max is available for 149,900 yuan (20,500 USD). The model with a bigger battery costs 159,900 yuan (21,850 USD). The top-trim level car’s price reaches 202,900 yuan (27,730 USD).
