BYD became the best-selling EV in Thailand, according to the latest insurance registration records of April 2023. Thailand registered 3,822 new EVs in April. Of those, 1,744 were delivered by BYD, accounting for 45.6% of all new EVs registered in the country. This marks the third consecutive month in which BYD has been the best-selling EV brand in Thailand, with 1,743 of the sales being the ATTO 3 model (and 1 BYD T3).
The ATTO 3 is BYD’s primary export model sold in over 20 countries worldwide. Its official selling price in Thailand is 1.099 million Baht (32,500 USD), while in China, it starts at 134,000 RMB (19,300 USD).
Regarding other brands, NETA came in second with 564 vehicles registered in April, followed by MG with 549 cars, and Tesla reported 534 vehicles in April and ranked fourth. The top five EV registrations in Thailand in February were the BYD ATTO 3 with 1,744 registrations, followed by the Neta V with 564, the Tesla Model Y with 391, the MG EP with 278, and the MG 4 Electric with 271.

During March 2023, many exhibitors received orders at the recently concluded 44th Bangkok International Motor Show 2023. The MG received the most orders, with 2,750 units. The second place is BYD, with 2,737 vehicles; the third is ORA, with 1,678 cars. Notably, the top five brands in orders are all Chinese companies, which have acquired both MG and Volvo.
Thailand’s electric vehicle market is increasing, with the country selling 1,056 EVs in 2020, 1,935 EVs in 2021, and 9,729 EVs in 2022, a fourfold increase. However, from January to April 2023, Thailand sold 18,599 EVs, nearly double the number sold in the entire year of 2022 and more than five times the number sold in January to April 2022.
BYD’s other model, the Dolphin, will be launched and sold in Thailand and delivered in the Q3 of 2023. BYD’s Thai factory is also under construction and will be put into operation in 2024.
