The Tank 400 Hi4-T is an off-road high-end body-on-frame SUV from Great Wall Motor. It is the third model in the Tank model line that is positioned between Tank 300 and Tank 500. It is available with PHEV powertrain only. Its power output reaches 408 hp and 750 Nm. Today, it has hit pre-sales in China and revealed prices. The price range of the Tank 400 is 285,000 – 295,000 yuan (39,100 – 40,470 USD).
What it Tank 400?
We will remind you that the Tank 400 was firstly introduced by the Great Wall Motor at the Chengdu Auto Show in 2021. And two years after, it starts pre-sales at the same event. The exterior design of the vehicle hasn’t changed much. It is still a rugged and brawny off-roader with lots of sharp lines and a spare wheel on the rear door.
Speaking about dimensions of the Tank 400, they are 4985/1960/1905 mm with a wheelbase of 2850 mm. It looks quite long, but you should keep in mind the spare wheel that adds it extra length. The Tank 400 was designed as an off-roader, so, it has awesome approach and departure angles of 33 and 30 degrees, respectively. As for the ground clearance of the Tank 400, it reaches 224 mm. What is more, it can drive ford up to 800 mm.
Inside, the Tank 400 has a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel and a huge 16.2-inch touch screen. If these screens aren’t enough for you, there is an HUD. The rear-view mirror inside the Tank 400’s cabin also has a screen. The center tunnel of the Tank 400 has two wireless phone charging pads, two cup holders, a rotary drive mode selector and a huge gear selector.
Speaking about the powertrain of the Tank 400, it is similar to the Tank 500 Hi4-T that has recently hit the market. They are underpinned by the same architecture, so it isn’t a surprise. Under the hood, the Tank 400 has a 2-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine for 252 hp and 380 Nm. It is paired with 9HAT transmission and an electric motor. The total power output of this off-roader reaches 408 hp and 750 Nm. As a result, the Tank 400 Hi4-T can speed up from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.9 seconds. As for the battery, its capacity is 20 kWh, good for 105 km of the WLTC range.
The Tank 400 has an intelligent 4WD system that has several drive modes like two-wheel drive (2H), four-wheel drive (AWD), high-speed four-wheel drive (4H), and low-speed four-wheel drive (4L). So, basically, it is quite similar to most of the torque-on-demand AWD systems.

The Tank 400 Hi4-T has started the pre-sales in China for 285,000-295,000 yuan (39,100 – 40,470 USD). You can order the Tank 400 for 3,000 yuan (410 USD). It can be reserved via Tank App. As for the market launch, it will happen this year as the Tank 400 has already got the production permission in China.
