YangWang is BYD’s flagship NEV brand, which was launched at the beginning of 2023. In May next year, YangWang will come to Brazil. Its first vehicle is a huge EREV (extended range electric vehicle) SUV U8 that costs over 1 million yuan (140,000 USD) in China. It has four e-motors or 880 kW (1,197 horsepower) and can perform tank turns and float on water. The second YangWang model is even crazier.

YangWang U9 explained

The YangWang U9 is an all-electric two-door sports car that made several public debuts at the domestic Auto Shows. In October 2023, the YangWang U9 was spotted on track, preparing for production. Nowadays, BYD has filed for the production version of the YangWang U9, revealing its specs and features. This two-door coupe appeared to be more powerful than expected.

The YangWang U9’s dimensions are 4966/2029/1295 mm, and a wheelbase of 2900 mm. So, this two-door coupe’s length stays in line with the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series. The U9 needed a huge wheelbase to fit a large battery pack and four e-motors. This sports car has an optional fixed-in-place carbon fiber rear spoiler. With it installed, the height of the U9 reaches 1338 mm without affecting length and width.

The YangWang U9’s approach and departure angles are 10 and 15 degrees. With a sporty rear diffuser, its departure angle decreases to 12 degrees. It won’t be easy to drive the YangWang U9 on public roads. The front track of the U9 is wider than the rear one: 1719 mm in the front and 1676 in the rear. The wider front track adds grip and performance through wide-radius bends. The YangWang U9 rides on 275/35 R21 (front) & 325/30 R21 (rear) wheels.

YangWang U9 powertrain

The YangWang U9 has a curb weight of 2475 kg. It’s almost twice the weight of Porsche 911 (992). But the U9 has an exceptional amount of power on the wheels. This coupe stands on BYD’s e4 platform and adopts quad electric motors made by BYD. Each e-motor (TZ220XYAK) has a power output of 240 kW. The combined power output of the YangWang U9 reaches 960 kW (1,305 horsepower).

The YangWang U9 is ahead of other Chinese electric vehicles in terms of power output. Even HiPhi A, Zeekr 001 FR, and GAC Aion Hyper SSR have fewer horses. Previously, BYD mentioned that the U9 can speed up from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds. Its top speed is limited to 300 km/h. As for the battery, it is a 100-kWh LFP pack from FinDreams, BYD’s subsidiary. According to previous information, the YangWang U9 will have a 700-km CLTC range. However, four electric motors will drain the battery much faster on the track.

The YangWang U9 is also equipped with the DiSus-X suspension and stabilization system. It allows the car to drive on three wheels, jump and dance. Its interior was unveiled in patent images with a steering yoke in May this year. BYD will manufacture the U9 in its motherland: Shenzhen, China. This vehicle will hit the market next year with a price tag of over 1 million yuan (140,000 USD).

  1. Brazilian market has been taken by storm by BYD’s “common” cars, imagine in 2024 with Fang Cheng Bao and Yangwang, they’ll face the premium brands. I believe is already a success!
