The BYD Dolphin is a new compact electric car with a lot of style and the first BYD to carry the brand’s new logo. BYD has released a flock of pictures of the Dolphin’s interior, and it looks just and fancy as the outside. The 3-spoke steering wheel has a cool and sporty shape, with an almost-arty center. The free-standing digital instrument panel is relatively compact.
Compared to internal combustion vehicles, electric cars are often seen as expensive and experimental transportation for the rich – indeed, it takes time for technology to trickle down to the average car. Still, that time may be here sooner than you’d think!
A few days ago, an electric version of the BMW 3 Series was spotted in China. It is quite a surprise. However, it fits BMW’s strategy of having 25 electric cars by 2023 and converting old ICE cars into EVs. According to BMW’s naming conventions, it should be called i3, but BMW’s 2013 first EV has this badge. So Chinese media speculate the new car’s name will be BMW i3L. Let’s use it as a code name for now.

Hon hai, overseas know as Foxconn, is a major manufacturer for Apple and other smartphone companies. Like many technological titans, they couldn’t resist joining the car-making race. Together with Taiwanese automaker Yulon Motors, they launched an EV project called MIH last October. MIH is a name of a modular platform for building electric cars. Foxconn stated that its goal is to gain a 10% share of the EV market between 2025-2027. Foxconn believes that the MIH platform is the Android for the electric vehicle industry.
Aiways is a new EV maker from China. U6 is their second car. They are the first Chinese EV startup that expanded to Europe in 2020. They move very quickly, as of today they sell cars in 7 European countries, including German, France, Netherland, and Norway. All sales counts to their only car – a crossover U5. This will change soon.

Changan was teasing this since November last year, and finally, it’s coming. The high-end AB brand (AB is a codename) will be launched next week and unveil 5 premium models, reported by Sina Finance. The first of them will be the electric E11, a four-wheel drive SUV with a price range between 200 000 – 400 000 yuan (31 000 – 62 000 USD). E11 is supposed to compete with Tesla Model Y and Nio ES8.
Modern Auto is a new EV startup brand founded in 2019 by Liu Xin (刘昕) in Shanghai. They have initial capital of 50 million yuan (8 million USD), and their cars will be manufactured by Beijing Automobile (BAW). In CNC, we say the more brands, the better. And we like underdogs!
